FBI / Dept of JusticeAug 26, 2006 – Expert Testimony Aids Federal Prosecution. Christopher Maxwell, a confessed 21-yr old computer hacker, sentenced in federal court to 37 months in federal prison, thanks in part to the Friend of the Court brief that Peter H. Gregory submitted at the request of U.S. Department of Justice prosecutor Kathryn Warma. Maxwell launched a “botnet” that attacked millions of computers worldwide and disrupted networks at hospitals, schools, and the U.S. Department of Defense. Seattle Times article. US Dept of Justice Press Release. This is an example of the cooperation between the public and private sectors that is facilitated by the FBI’s InfraGard program (for which Peter is a board member).
